From 26th May to 28th May 2026, the Wealth From Waste Project successfully conducted a three-day training that brought together young entrepreneurs engaged in the waste value chain to strengthen their capacity in business and entrepreneurship. The training created a platform for learning, networking, mentorship, and collaboration among youth committed to transforming waste into sustainable economic opportunities.
The training focused on key areas including business development, entrepreneurship, digital marketing, financial growth, and business mentorship. Participants were equipped with practical skills and knowledge to help them start, manage, and expand businesses within the waste management sector while improving their livelihoods and contributing to environmental conservation.
A major highlight of the training was the strong emphasis on inclusion and equal participation. The event brought together young people from diverse backgrounds, including a number of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), demonstrating the project’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in economic empowerment and community development initiatives. The active participation of PWDs promoted inclusion, equal opportunity, and representation within the waste value chain sector.
The mentorship sessions were led by Dr. Morris Chris Ongom, who inspired participants through practical lessons and real-life stories from his entrepreneurial journey. He shared valuable experiences on building partnerships, growing businesses, creating networks, and remaining resilient in challenging business environments. His sessions encouraged participants to think innovatively and embrace collaboration as a pathway to success.
Another key milestone achieved during the training was the successful formation of the Sector Association for Waste Value Chain Entrepreneurs. The association will serve as a collective platform for entrepreneurs within the sector to advocate for supportive policies, promote fair labour practices, strengthen partnerships, access markets, and engage effectively with city authorities and government institutions. The formation of the association marks an important step towards building a stronger and more organized waste management sector driven by youth-led initiatives.
Through the Wealth From Waste Project, young people continue to receive support through entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and access to financial assistance aimed at helping them grow their businesses and improve their standards of living. The project remains committed to creating employment opportunities, promoting environmental sustainability, and empowering communities through innovation and inclusive economic participation.
The three-day training demonstrated the power of collaboration, mentorship, and inclusion in driving sustainable development. As participants return to their communities equipped with new skills and renewed motivation, the project continues to inspire a growing movement of youth entrepreneurs transforming waste into wealth and creating lasting impact within society.
