Allow me initiate by unlocking the top three (3) incredible products that can be got from cassava and their prices;

1.      First class cassava flour goes for 2,500 UGX per Kilogram.

2.      Gari goes for 2,000 UGX per Kilogram.

3.      Starch goes for 5,000 UGX per Kilogram.

Now, let’s assume you have 1 acre of cassava of local variety of cassava (Omogo-bao variety in Oyam district).

      Yield estimate

      Local varieties: 3-7 Ton/acre

      Improved varieties: 6-20 Ton/acre.

Each Ton of fresh cassava can yield 400 kilograms of flour. Assuming you got 5 Tons from your 1 acre, the total amount of flour you will get after processing is 4X400=1,600. This is 1,600 kilograms of first class flour. Translating the flour into money, 1,600X2,500=4,000,000 UGX. This is 4 million Uganda shillings. This money can be got from your 1 acre of local variety of cassava. This is possible.

So why do cassava farmers remain poor?

It is probable that besides usage of dry cassava for brewing alcohol, you no idea what else you were reading about like the Gari, starch, first class cassava flour.
