This program seeks to strengthen democratic governance and ensure that citizens' voices are heard and acted upon in Uganda's development processes.

Strategic Vision and Objectives

The Governance, Voice, and Accountability (GoVA) program seeks to strengthen democratic governance and ensure that citizens' voices are heard and acted upon in Uganda's development processes. The core objectives of GoVA are to promote transparent, accountable governance, enhance civic participation, and empower marginalized groups to engage effectively with decision-makers. The program aims to create an inclusive political environment where all citizens can contribute to shaping policies and governance structures.

Key Initiatives and Activities

capacity-building workshops

For civil society organizations, training for local government officials on transparency and accountability practices, and facilitating platforms for citizen engagement

Creation of Community Parliaments

These will provide structured forums for community members to discuss local issues, propose solutions, and hold their leaders accountable.

Enhancing media literacy

supporting independent journalism to ensure that accurate information reaches the public

Expected Outcomes and Impact:

By 2028, GoVA aims to foster a more inclusive and accountable governance system in Uganda. Expected outcomes include increased citizen participation in governance processes, improved transparency in the management of public resources, and greater responsiveness of government institutions to the needs and concerns of the populace. The establishment of Community Parliaments is anticipated to enhance civic engagement and ensure that local governance reflects the needs and aspirations of the community. The program also anticipates a reduction in corruption levels and an increase in trust between citizens and their leaders, contributing to a more stable and democratic society.

Safe and Inclusive Cities (SAIC)

With support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency - SIDA, CEHURD in Partnership with GLOFORD has been implementing a programme titled: The Joint Advocacy for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Uganda (JAS Programme) which aims at building a progressive Sexual Reproductive Health Rights advocacy movement in Uganda.

HerVoice

The Hear My Climate Action Voice (Her Voice) project Seeks to address the environmental challenges of encroachment of Okole swamp especially through human activities such as, farming , settlement, disposal of waste in the swamp for example medical, dead animals and liquid wastes such as alcohol mollases. This swamp is situated in Lira city East division in the areas of Ayago and Ngetta
