Lira City, July 26, 2025 — In a significant stride towards women empowerment and inclusive development, GLOFORD Uganda, under the Safe and Inclusive Cities (SAIC) Project Code 3.3.4, held a transformative engagement with the Women for Change (WOC) group—a Key Population (KP) group—at the Lira City West Division Headquarters from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The session focused on building technical and financial linkages for the group, culminating in a remarkable milestone as WOC disbursed their group savings and was formally linked to Post Bank Uganda for sustained financial inclusion. This linkage is expected to strengthen the group’s capacity to access formal banking services and boost their economic activities.
The event featured a dynamic blend of facilitators, each contributing to the holistic empowerment of the group. A business specialist delivered a comprehensive session on financial management, business scaling, and seizing job opportunities within Lira City’s private sector. The session also explored viable alternative sources of income, equipping the women with tools to diversify and grow their economic ventures.
Spiritual nourishment was not left out. A man of God shared a message of hope and upliftment, highlighting the power of prayer and faith as anchors in the group’s personal and professional journeys.
The Lira City West Community Development Officer (CDO) enriched the session with vital training on financial literacy and detailed insights into government programs such as the Parish Development Model and the Youth Livelihood Program. He also pledged his continued support to the group, encouraging them to remain focused and organized to benefit from available government interventions.
The climax of the day was an inspiring address by Dr. Moris Chris Ongom, CEO of GLOFORD Uganda, who shared the “Five Baskets of Life” theory. He outlined the journey of success through five essential stages: knowledge and skills, application, networking, access to resources, and reputation. His words ignited a new sense of purpose and drive among the women, urging them to take bold steps in building sustainable livelihoods.
This engagement marks yet another milestone in GLOFORD’s mission to create safe, inclusive, and economically empowered urban communities through strategic partnerships and grassroots capacity building.
