Lira, Uganda – On 14 September, GLOFORD Uganda, in collaboration with Plan Uganda, hosted a friendly football match between the local community and refugees at Ambalal Primary School. This event served as an exciting initiative under the SAIC project, which aims to promote social inclusion and community engagement through sports.
The match was officiated by the Speaker of Lira City and attended by several notable figures, including Youth Councilor Haggard, the Head teacher of Ambalal Primary School, and the LC1 of Junior Quarters, alongside enthusiastic youths from various wards.
In an exciting display of skill and teamwork, the refugee team triumphed with a 3-0 victory, showcasing their talent on the field. The refugees expressed their joy and eagerness to engage in more community events like this one, emphasizing that such matches foster coexistence within the community. They even expressed interest in joining the local football club for training sessions at Ambalal.
During the event, Youth Councilor Haggard announced the possibility of hosting another match in the future, with the refugees keen to participate.
This friendly match not only provided a platform for healthy competition but also highlighted the importance of sports in building bridges between diverse communities. It received significant media coverage, with representatives from Voice of the Gospel, Voice of Lango, and Radio Waa in attendance, showcasing the event’s role in promoting community spirit and inclusivity.
As GLOFORD Uganda continues to implement the SAIC project in partnership with PLAN International Uganda, initiatives like this football match demonstrate the power of sports in bringing people together and fostering a sense of belonging among all community members.
