GLOFORD Uganda’s HER VOICE project has recently formed Female Environmental Action Groups (FEAGs) in Ngetta and Ayago wards of Lira City East Division. Each ward now has a group of nine members dedicated to driving environmental sustainability and community cleanliness.
The primary goals of these FEAGs include creating awareness about environmental protection, promoting the construction and use of rubbish pits for proper waste management, advocating for well-constructed pit latrines to improve hygiene, and ensuring proper waste disposal. They are also addressing the pressing issue of stopping the harmful practice of dumping molasses into Okole swamp.
Supported by GLOFORD Uganda and local council leaders (LC1s), the FEAGs mobilize the community through meetings, door-to-door campaigns, and collaboration with local authorities to enforce environmental regulations. These efforts are fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and stewardship, aiming for long-term sustainability in the region.
The community members were lead by the LCI chairperson who moblised the activity
