GLOFORD (UGANDA) is a Christian youth mentorship, leadership and governance, Advocacy, development and Research not for profit NGO that was founded in 2010 and currently operating in Lira, Oyam, Alebtong and Dokolo districts. As an Advocacy and Development organization, GLOFORD is committed to working with young people, leaders, communities, Civil society partners, donors, academia and private sector to champion Holistic development programs and approaches to enhance effective, efficient and quality service delivery to the disadvantaged and oppressed communities and individuals. GLOFORD Uganda is implementing Health, WASH, youth empowerment and Governance projects in the above districts while anchoring its programing on youth mentorship in governance, development, leadership and family. We continue to partner and network with different partners and donors locally, nationally and internationally as we strive to build this organization to deliver on its vision for humanity.

As a youth focused and youth led organization, we provide limited volunteer and internship opportunities year round to mentor and coach upcoming young professionals through our Young Graduate and Dreams to Action Programs. Currently we are seeking to recruit suitable professionals to help champion the organization’s cause alongside participating in innovative project designs to respond to identified community development needs and youth aspirations. Our drive for results in all our interventions, clear partnership strategies, visionary leadership in working with individuals and communities remain pivotal in all we do. However, our current salary scales are not very attractive but we are growing and yet able to deliver on our promise.

GLOFORD Uganda therefore seeks to recruit qualified individuals to fill in the following positions

Role of the Position

The YEEO is an exciting and important role to engage young people (14 to 35 years old) to participate in GLOFORD’s mentorships, trainings, projects, campaigns and other events. The position holder will support the planning and delivery of activities to engage young people through the lens of GLOFORD’s positive youth development models. S/he will take full responsibility for capacity-building of individual youth, youth groups, youth leaders and the facilitation of linkages between youth and other market led opportunities, youth and community actors throughout the cycles, by offering oversight to the delivery of the Youth Peer Education and Mentorship models.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Youth Engagement Officer is an exciting and important role to engage young people (14 to 35 years old) to participate in our various development and mentorship programs. The position holder will support the planning and delivery of activities to engage young people in the project target area by under taking the following roles:-

   Youth Empowerment responsibilities

  • Identify and recruit youth service users, project participants and volunteers for GLOFORD’s development and leadership initiatives for in and out of school youth and ensure the expected numbers of young people are retained on projects/programs.
  • Grow, update and strengthen local relationships with community, youth groups and support agencies working with and for young people.
  • Support the preparation and delivery of youth empowerment workshops, experiential programmes and recreational activities, ensuring high quality, enjoyable learning experiences centred on the aspirations of the young people.
  • Work in partnership with other local agencies to support engaged individuals and young people to overcome challenges and meet their holistic needs, aspirations in order to successfully pursue their dreams of life.
  • Mentor young people and youth groups to aspire and continue on the path of their great dreams and aspirations
  • Develop and strengthen GLOFORD’s mentorship models, recruit Next Generation Mentors (NGMs), orient them, deploy and manage relationships with them
  • Build strong and effective networks, collaborations and alliances at community, sub county, district and national levels that are critical in championing youth issues

Economic Empowerment responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Program Manager, s/he is the lead in the area of youth Economic Empowerment in GLOFORD.
  • S/he Works closely with local partner NGOs and local government to advice on positive youth development and help to innovate strategies to mentor youth entrepreneurs and leaders.
  • S/he will also effectively manage youth start-up grants, ensuring that gender sensitive and environmental friendly business proposals for financial and technical support are properly drafted, reviewed and supported to transform community youth ideas into successfully run, more self-reliant business ventures.
  • The YEEO will ensure that the approved work plans are properly implemented as agreed with the donor and management.
  • S/he will ensure planning and preparation of result driven weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans and quality reports on field activities are properly drafted and timely submitted to the Program Manager.
  • S/he is responsible for writing and documenting successful and failing case stories and lessons learnt for further programming.
  • S/he will maintain, monitor and update a gender and age disaggregated livelihood and youth data system for use by GLOFORD and other implementing partners.
  • S/he will monitor business start-up grants and perform monthly spot-checks on established youth business initiatives as well as provide mentorship and linkages of the youth to local governments, private sector and other strategic and local networks.

Design, Monitoring and evaluation responsibilities

  • Resource acquisition: Lead/participate in proposal development according to donor specifications and standards
  • Develop and coordinate administering of performance-monitoring tools to track project/program indicators in line with the project/program implementation plan.
  • Provide technical support and monitoring and evaluation according to GLOFORD Uganda M&E strategy/plan and donor requirements.
  • Develop and implement specific youth project M&E plans
  • Provide technical Lead in the development of organizational annual work plan and support the development of monthly work plans for all youth projects.
  • Support implementation of youth project/program monitoring and evaluation recommendations
  • Collect andanalyze dataon the impact of GLOFORD’s youth programs/projects and identify factors that facilitated or hampered the effective program/project implementation.
  • Take the lead on, or assist in developing new project needs assessments, baselines and evaluations
  • Facilitate compilation and fine tuning of professional project/program reports ensuring they are presented in a timely manner and meet donor / organizational requirements.
  • Where necessary maintain good communication with and represent GLOFORD to donors and Governmental departments; Participate in joint agency assessments, task-force teams and workshops, etc.
  • Ensure proper filling and management of M&E data from the various activities within the organization as well as documentation of success and failing stories with relevant lessons learnt to improve programing
  • Attend and participate in daily prayer devotion and planning meetings
  • Any other duties as designated by the line supervisor to support the smooth operations and functioning of the organization.

Required Experience/ attributes.

The potential personnel should:

  • Have possess a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a strategic community development field with at least 3 years’ experience working in youth empowerment projects/programs. A relevant post graduate qualification in an added advantage.
  • Understand the language and expectations of young people, whether living in urban and rural areas
  • Be charismatic, friendly but disciplined in approach when engaging young people and mobilizing adults to support and work with young people
  • Be empathic and responsible individual with proven ability to lead, motivate and engage young people on projects and mentorship activities for in and out of school youth
  • Be able to form strong and appropriate relationships, demonstrating excellent communication skills at all levels and ability to assess and understand needs of young people
  • Be able to work independently and cooperatively with young people and diverse teams
  • Have experience of working with young people (14-35 year old) in a development and leadership role
  • Planning, delivering and evaluating projects with an understanding on the needs of young people
  • Have passion for the next generation and already without just job, s/he can demonstrate engagement with young people of some sort
  • Have experience of management duties in reputable organizations
  • Have a clear understanding of the principles and ways to implement Human Rights Based approach in programming and development work
  • Be a good organisation and an enlightened time manager; able to prioritise workloads effectively, meet deadlines, multi task, monitor and document outcomes
  • Good ICT skills, spread sheets and competent in Microsoft Office or Apple software applications.
  • Have fair orientation of the donor and government of Uganda development landscape among others

Working Conditions

Ability and willingness to travel and stay at remote locations that are located within potentially hostile environments. Able to travel within the Lango sub region, country and internationally as required. The above statements are intended to describe the essential functions of this job.
